Abstract

121,417. Raper, J. March 30, 1918. Protecting.-To prevent ships being sunk by mines or torpedoes, they are encased in shells filled with a mixture of cement or concrete and iron or steel borings. The shell is formed of plates d riveted to bearers e and to vertical bands f which are bent at the ends f<1> and riveted to the hull. Horizontal distance plates g are fised between the upper edges of the casing and bearers l on the hull. These plates have openings, for the introduction of the concrete, which are closed by covers i secured by bolts j and plates k.
