Protecting.-To protect ships against torpedoes, a series of double conico-spiral springs a are fitted so as to project outwardly from the hull, guides k being provided to cause the torpedoes to enter the springs. The springs may be fixed directly to the hull plating or to separate plates which are afterwards fixed in position.
