1,213,877. Lubricating. VSESOJUZNY ORDENA TRUDOVOGO KRASNOGO ZNAMENI TEPLOTEKHNICHESKY NAUCHNOISSLEDOVATELSKY INSTITUT IMENI DZERZHINSKOGO. 5 Dec., 1968, No. 57834/68. Heading F2A. A bearing 14 supports a shaft 15 and is lubricated by means of lubricant being drawn through a pipe 16 from a sump formed in a casing 13 of the bearing. The pipe 16 connects to a clearance formed between the bearing and the shaft and the sump comprises a part 12 which receives lubricant from a tank 1, via a pump 2, a cooler 4, a pipe 5, a valve 6 and a pipe 11; and a part 17 which is separated from the part 12 by means of an inclined partition 18 and a perforated partition 19 and which receives used lubricant and returns it, via a pipe 20, to the tank 1. If the pipe 16 is blocked, a reduced pressure occurs in the clearance and in a chamber 22 of the valve which is connected to the clearance by a pipe 21. A member 9 of the valve is moved to cut-off the supply of lubricant to the sump part 12 and a member 10 of the valve is moved to connect the pipe 5 to the clearance, via a pipe 23. The pipe 16 is provided with a non-return valve 24 and the pipe 11 is provided with an aperture 25 to prevent flowback of lubricant if the pump 2 should fail. Lubricant in the sump 17 is maintained at a constant level by means of the pipe 20.
