Abstract

1,193,471. Bearings; lubricating. MICHELL BEARINGS Ltd. 2 April, 1968 [3 Jan., 1967], No. 238/67. Heading F2A. In a self-lubricating bearing in which a shaft 3 rotates in a bush 2, an annular oil trough (4) (Fig. 2, not shown) is mounted on the shaft to rotate therewith and picks up oil from a sump 12, an oil scoop (5) being provided to feed oil from the trough into a chamber 6 causing a build-up of oil pressure in the chamber when it becomes full, the oil then passing through passage 7 to an oil cooler 8 and passages 9 and 10 to the bearing, and the oil then draining from the bearing bush to the sump 12. Corresponding chambers and passages 17 to 23 are provided to supply oil when the shaft rotates in the opposite direction. A sight glass (16) (Fig. 3, not shown) is provided to indicate the oil level in the sump.
