Abstract
1,213,556. Electro-depositing chromiumnickel alloys. BRITISH NON-FERROUS METALS RESEARCH ASSOCIATION. July 4, 1969 [July 10, 1968], No. 32976/68. Addition to 1,144, 913. Heading C7B. Cr-Ni codeposit or alloy (e. g. 70Cr 30Ni or 80Ni: 20Cr) is electro-deposited from a solution containing trivalent Cr e.g. 0À8-1À3M, Ni e.g. at least 0À05M, NH4 e.g. at least 0À2M, and halide ions, and optionally at least 0À5M NaCl and at least 0À1M boric acid, dissolved in a homogeneous liquid mixture of not more than 65% by volume water with the remainder a dipolar organic compound containing an oxygen atom activated by an adjacent electron-donating atom or group. The pH can be adjusted to 1-3À5 by adding HCl or NaOH. Cr and Ni may be added as acetates, formates, oxalates, sulphates, chrome alums, nitrates or halides (Cl, Br or I), Graphite, Pb, Ni or Cr anodes may be used. Dipolar organic compounds specified are dimethyl sulphoxide; tetrahydrothiophene dioxide (sulpholane); formamide; acetamide; N-methyl-, dimethyl- or butyl-formamide; dimethylacetamide; and tetramethylurea. A C.D. of 0À5-20 amp/dm<2> may be used.
