Abstract

1,213,311. Printing plates. GEVAERTAGFA N.V. 3 Jan., 1968 [11 Jan., 1967], No. 1488/67. Heading B6C. [Also in Division G2] Lithographic plates are produced by treating a silver image on a hydrophilic colloid layer with an aqueous composition containing mercuric ions which renders the image hydrophobic and hardening the colloid before, during or after such treatment. The silver image may be produced photographically (see Division G2), electrolytically or by electrochemical interaction. The aqueous composition may also contain a material to improve the hydrophilic properties of the non-image areas. Such materials are hydrophilic polymers and wetting agents. The mercuric ions in the composition may be neutralized by including in the composition emulsifiable oily sequestering agents and mercapto compounds.
