Abstract

1292599 Planographic printing plates AGFA-GEVAERT 19 Dec 1969 [20 Dec 1968] 60837/68 Heading G2M [Also in Division B6] A hydrophilic colloid layer bearing a silver image produced by a silver complex diffusion transfer process is treated with an acidic aqueous composition containing (a) cerium (III) ions, preferably cerium sulphate, which at least superficially oxidises the image and (b) an organic compound which renders the oxidized silver hydrophobic; the colloid layer being hardened before during or after the treatment. The composition may also include other oxidizing agents e.g. Pb, Hg, Cu, Cr, Fe ions, a water-soluble permanganate, or iodic acid. The organic compound may be 1-allyl-imidazoline-2-thione. A latent hardener may be incorporated in the plate.
