Abstract

1455136 Photomechanical printing processes K P DOTZEL [trading as KLAUS-P DOTZEL KG] 7 Nov 1973 [7 Nov 1972 14 Feb 1973 19 Sept 1973] 51772/73 Heading G2M A photomechanical printing process comprises (i) impregnating a fibrous sheet with a liquid radiation-sensitive material, (ii) imagewise exposing and developing the impregnated sheet to remove the unexposed areas, (iii) treating the developed sheet to render the bared areas ink-repellent, and (iv) applying ink so as to ink the image and contacting with a material to be printed. Foils may be applied to both sides of the impregnated sheet before exposure, at least one of which is transparent to allow imagewise exposure and then at least one foil is removed before development. In the examples, the impregnated sheet is imagewise exposed and developed and then treated with (a) a hydrophilic, water-insoluble acrylate dispersion containing aluminium hydroxide or an oil-repellent silicone oil emulsion with an acrylate dispersion an oil repellent chromic stearate/isopropanol solution and then inking with an oil-based ink or (b) silicone oil emulsion, a polytetrafluoroethylene dispersion or an aqueous solution of ammonium (bis (N-ethyl-2- perfluoroalkyl-sulphonamide-ethyl)-phosphate and then inking with a non-oil based ink which adheres to the image.
