Abstract
1,213,062. Coking coal. L. & C. STEINMULLER G.m.b.H. 13 Nov., 1967 [12 Nov., 1966], No. 51512/67. Heading C5E. In a continuous coking process shaped cornpacts of coal, provided with channels or recesses, are stacked in radial columns 2 on a revolving refractory carrier table 3. The coking process occurs in four sectors 14, 15, 16 and 17; in sectors 15 and 16 the coal is within the temperature range at which devolatization is at a maximum. Air, which can be preheated to 750‹ C., is passed through the passages 18, it is vertically distributed through the fuel mass by the deflectors 19 and can be introduced at different rates within the two sectors 15 and 16 by means of the partitions 20. The air flows through the channels 22 in the columns of coal causing partial combustion of the volatilized gas, leaves the mass of coal radially and collects in the peripheral channels 23 and 27. The gas passing from sector 15 via channel 23 flows into channel portion 24 in which it may be further heated by partial combustion with air introduced through nozzles 25, then flows through the channels 22 in the coal in sector 14 in the opposite direction to the flow in sector 15 and is discharged through the central exit 26; similarly air flows into the coal in sector 16 and is reheated in channel portion 27 by air admitted at 28 before flowing inwards through the coal in sector 17, The refractory table 3 is supported on a frame 4 which can be cooled from below by the air or gas which is to be used for combustion and which is thereby preheated.
