Abstract

[Also in Division Gl] A register of cyclometer type comprises (a) a pre-assembled unit including a main shaft carrying register drums 24 and a parallel transfer shaft 21 carrying pinions 22, one engaging each pair of adjacent drums, the two shafts being supported by end blocks 19, 20 and (b) a frame 10 (11, 12, 13) carrying the end blocks 19, 20 of the unit. The blocks 19, 20 have grooves 37, Fig. 3, co-operating with open-ended slots 38, Fig. 1A, in the side walls 12, 13, catches 39 engaging further slots 40 in the walls 12, 13 and catches 44 securing the front cover, Fig. 2 (not shown). A drive-shaft 15 extends through the web 11 for connection to a gas meter, for example, and also through the front cover to carry a pointer. A worm wheel 18 on the shaft 15 drives a helically toothed pinion moulded into the hub of the first drum 24 which serves to gear down the register and need not be exposed through the dial opening displaying the other drums. The transfer mechanism is also described.
