Abstract
121,282. Soc. Electro-Metallurgique Franþaise. Dec. 3, 1917. [Convention date]. Couplings. - A current-conducting electrodeholder for furnaces has radial projections engaging in transverse holes in the electrode and sealed therein by conducting paste. The arrangement is particularly applicable to electrodes consisting of bundles of rods, and to block electrodes. The electrode shown in Figs. 1 and 2 is composed of four square rods a having diagonal grooves receiving flat wings e on the holder. Good connexion is ensured by cast metal f and conducting-cement g. The electrode is covered with refractory material h. A stream of water flows through passages 1 - - 7 in the cruciform stem d and wings c of the holder. In another construction, the holder has four cylindrical bosses entering holes of larger diameter in the electrode rods. Granular conducting-material is compressed within the holes by washers and nuts on the bosses. The ends of the holes are filled with carbon paste. Parts of the rods are cut away to form a recess which accommodates the stem of the holder and is packed with carbon paste. Holders for a number of compound electrodes may be attached to a single bridge.
