Abstract
1,212,524. Moulding machines. RUBERY OWEN & CO. Ltd. 28 Nov., 1967 [30 May, 1967; 10 Oct., 1967], Nos. 24816/67 and 46162/67. Heading B3F. [Also in Division B8] Apparatus for receiving and assembling pairs of components, e.g. cope and drag mould boxes, comprises a rotatable frame 18 that receives the cope and raises and inverts it, a conveyer 46 that receives the drag and raises it to the cope for alignment therewith, and means for releasing the cope from the frame 18 so that the cope and drag can be lowered on the conveyer 46 for onward conveyance. The incoming cope is supplied from a conveyer 9 on to rollers 21 to slide into a carrier 26 positioned in the U-shaped frame 18. The carrier 26 is movable transversely within the frame 18 by means of rollers 24, 25 and bearing surfaces 22, 23. The cope pivots a lever 33 which operates a first power means, comprising a pair of successively operated rams (15), (19), (Fig. 4, not shown), to pivot and raise the cope above the conveyer 46. The carrier 26 is positioned transversely in its raised position by the rollers 25 acting on cam faces on the framework of the apparatus. When the cope is raised a removable stop is raised on the conveyer 46 against which the incoming drag abuts. The drag is guided by guides 48 on the conveyer 46 and cams and rollers ensure the correct position of the conveyer 46 in its lower position. The conveyer 46 is raised by a ram (41) (Fig. 3, not shown) and is guided laterally by cam plates (57). Rotational alignment of the drag is provided by a limited rotational movement of the cylinder of the ram 41. When the cope and drag are aligned and closed together a further ram (58) moves them slightly to release the cope from engagement with the carrier 26 so that they can be lowered. The rollers 21 and conveyer 46 in its lower position are inclined for gravity feed, and as the conveyer 46 is lowered rollers 52 engage abutments 54 to tip the conveyer to its correct inclination.
