Abstract

1440117 Shearing WIRTZ MFG CO Inc 6 Sept 1973 [11 Sept 1972] 41958/73 Heading B3W Battery grids, cast with lugs on their leading edges, emerging from a mould, fall, via a slid 12<SP>1</SP>, on to a conveyer 16. A weighted roller 26 holds the grid against the conveyer and plates 24 guide it. A plate 34 pivoted to a shaft 36 and supported by a spacer 76 on a bracket 44 receives the grid and is pivoted by means of the bracket between the horizontal grid-receiving position shown in Fig. 1, and an inclined position in which the plate rests on a stop 86 on the machine frame 14. The bracket which is fixed to the shaft 36 on which the plate is journalled, is pivoted, via a crank 48, links 50 and 56 and a cam follower 60 on the link 56, by a rotatable cam 62. As the plate moves down the grid slides and is aligned for feeding to a trimming shear 118 by engagement of lugs (94), Fig. 5 (not shown), with a stop 84 on the bracket. When the plate is stopped by the stop 86, the bracket continues to move so that the stop 84 moves out of the path of the grid which is fed against the stop 128 of the shear 118 by rolls 104, 106. Blades 126 co-operate with blades 124 for trimming the flash (96), sprue (98) and lugs (94), Fig. 5, from the leading edge and a gate portion (92) from the trailing edge respectively. The stop 128 is swung upwardly after the blades close to allow the trimmed grid to slide on to a plate 134 with lateral lugs 136 resting on rails 138. Pivoting the plate 134 moves the grid to a stack 142.
