Abstract
1,160,501. Cutting apparatus. HUNTER DOUGLAS. 5 Jan., 1968 [6 Jan., 1967], No. 916/68. Heading B4B. [Also in Divisions B3 and B6] The throw of step-by-step feed mechanism for presenting certain areas of strip material e.g. metal foil, to a punching station is variable to compensate for deviations between the actual distances between, and the expected pitch of, the certain areas. A correction mechanism comprises a member 11 including a portion 13 oscillatable about a shaft 12. As shown the member 11 is connected to the strip feed mechanism by a connecting rod 4 of variable length or it may be mounted directly on the shaft of the feed mechanism 3 (Fig. 2, not shown). A rod 8 driven by the main, drive 10 of the machine is connected to the member 11 by means of a tilting member 14 which is pivoted to the rod 8 at 15 and to the member 11 at 16. The tilting member 14 is normally urged by a spring arrangement 17-22 of variable intensity, in the anticlockwise direction to an extent limited by an adjustable stop 23. A plurality of levers 26a, e.g. three, pivoted at 26 in a frame 42 each has a projection engaging a pin 27a on a respective abutment member 27. The members 27 are vertically slidable in the frame, staggered with respect to an adjustable stop 29 on the member 11 and can be lifted independently of each other by means of lifting magnets 28 energized by a signal from detection apparatus which scans reference indications located at regular intervals on the strip material to leave a selected abutment member in the path of the stop 29. When oscillation of the member 11 and therefore feed movement of the mechanism 3 are thus stopped the member 14 can tilt against the action of the spring 17, Fig. 4 (not shown), to allow the main drive of the machine to continue uninterrupted. A wedging mechanism Fig. 7 (not shown) may be provided for varying the position of all the abutment members 27 simultaneously, the face (34) acting on and moving the abutment members 27.
