Abstract
1,212,347. Mixed oxides; ceramics. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. 18 March, 1968 [3 April, 1967], No. 15247/67. Headings C1A and C1J. [Also in Division H1] A ceramic complex metal oxide crystalline product having ferroelectric or ferromagnetic properties is prepared by forming an alkoxide of two or more of the transition metals and the metals of Groups I, II, and VB of the Periodic Table, mixing the alkoxides in the fluid phase, and converting the mixture to the complex metal oxide product. Stcichiometric compounds or solid solutions of the oxides may be formed. Alkoxides of Zr, Ti, Nb, and Sn may be prepared by reacting the metal chloride with alcohol in the presence of ammonia. In examples solutions in n-butanol of butoxides of Pb, Zr, Ti and Nb, with or without. Sn, are mixed, hydrolysed by spraying into water containing ammonia, and the precipitate is washed, filtered, and calcined in an oxygen atmosphere; other examples describe the preparation of lead titanate, zirconate, and niobate. Hf may partly or wholly replace Zr. electric motor, the tape 6 then passing through a groove in a guide shoe 14 resting on the glass pane as the trolley moves horizontally. Feeler rollers 30, 31, Fig. 4b, move with the tape applying section, one behind the other to detect an edge k of the glass pane. The respective spring- biased lever mechanisms of the feeler rollers 30, 31 actuate switches so that the horizontal transport of the machine is first slowed down when the feeler 31 reaches the edge k and then stopped when feeler roller 30 arrives. At the same time they activate an hydraulic clamping device, Fig. 5 (not shown), to prevent the guide shoe 14 dropping over the edge k. The tape 6 is then cut by reciprocating blades 23a, 24a, Fig. 1, adjacent the feeler rollers 30, 31. The clamp is released and an hydraulic jack (5), Fig 7 (not shown) raises the tape applying section to its original position on the columns 4 and the trolley returned to its initial position. A cantilever spring (12), Figs. 2a, 2b (not shown), located beneath the guide shoe 14 projects across its groove to prevent the tape from falling whilst the tape applying section is raised and lowered, and also to prevent retraction of the tape during application.
