Abstract

1,212,260. Photographic materials for printing plates. KALLE A.G. March 29, 1968 [March 31, 1967], No.15135/68. Headings G2C and G2M. Photographic material used for the production of offset printing plates comprises a support with an aluminium surface free from or poor in oxide coated with a water-insoluble layer formed by hardening and water-soluble polyper and overcoated with an acid-curable resin and a lightsensitive compound of which the light-decomposition products cure the resin. Specified polymers for the intermediate layer are polyvinyl alcohol, hydroxyethyl cellulose, polyacrylamide and dextrin which are hardened with formaldehyde. Specified acid-curable resins are urea-formaldehyde and urea-melamine resins. Specified lightsensitive compounds are organic halogen compounds and diazonium salts. In the examples, a mechanically brushed aluminium support is coated with a layer containing a polymer and formaldehyde are heated and then coated with a layer containing a melamine resin, iodoform, perylene, Astrazon Red and polyvinyl acetate or polystyrene. The material is imagewise exposed and developed to remove the unexposed areas and the bared aluminium treated with sodium metasilicate to produce an offset printing plate.
