Abstract

1413374 Photo-resist materials with infrared absorbent layers HOECHST AG 12 Jan 1973 [15 Jan 1972] 1744/73 Heading G2C A photo-sensitive material for use in producing printing plates comprise a metallic support having on one side an infrared absorbent layer and on the other side a negative or positive-working photoresist layer containing a quinone diazide. The invention also relates to a process for producing a printing plate using the above material (except any photo-resist may be used by imagewise exposure of the material development to remove more soluble areas and heating by exposing the infrared layer to infrared radiation. Specified infrared absorbent layers are C or Al particles in a polymeric binder or in waterglass. Specified photoresist layers are o-naphthoquinone diazides in phenolic resins diazonium compounds or azides in polymers and photo-polymerizable materials. The material may be imagewise exposed, developed to remove the soluble areas and uniformly heated through the infrared absorptive layer to harden the resist. Alternatively the infrared abosrbent layer may be an anodized layer dyed with an infrared absorbent dye. Preferred naphthoquinone diazides are the sulphonic and carbocyclic acid esters and amides of Specification 1154749.
