Abstract
1,211,826. Ventilators. H. H. ROBERTSON CO. 13 Aug., 1969 [11 Sept., 1968], No. 40477/69. Heading F4V. [Also in Division A5] A ventilator adapted to be opened in the event of fire or an explosion comprises hinged cover 28 normally held by latch 34 in a closed position in which it overlies curb 22, and fluidactuated motor means 44 mounted between cover 28 and curb 22 pivotally connected to one and operatively engageable with, but normally disengaged from, the other, whereby the cover is pivotable to the open position, manually on release of the latch or forcibly on activation of the motor. Link 66 serves to limit pivotal motion of the cover and to lock it when opened. Telescoping motor means 44 is pivotally mounted at 40 on platform 42 between curb walls 32, 36, rests on support 94, and extends upwardly with axially movable rod 88 adjacent abutment 38 on the cover. The motor means comprises cylinder 80 having a variable volume chamber 86 and a sliding piston 82 connected to rod 88, and replaceable cartridge 46 which contains pressurized fluid, e.g. N 2 at 600-2500 p.s.i., and can communicate with cylinder 80 via mounting member 100 and link passage 102. Mounting 100 includes a piercing pin for the cartridge activated by release means 48 employing spring 132 and fusible link 130. Latch 34 is also connected to release 48, but may alternatively be manually released by a cable (76, Fig. 6). The motor means is alternatively activated by increasing gas pressure in the cartridge. In an alternative embodiment (Fig. 9) the motor means may be pivoted on the cover and extend towards an abutment on the curb.
