Abstract

1,211,259. Sewage treating vehicle. D. WICKHAM & CO. Ltd. 23 April, 1969 [21 Feb., 1968], No. 8477/68. Heading B1D. A lorry 123 carries a floculant tank 117 from which floculating agent is delivered by a pump (124) to a mixer 116, where it meets sewage sludge drawn from a primary settling tank at a sewage works, through inlet duct 114, macerator 115 and pump (120), the floculated sludge passing to the open tank 111 of an inward flow rotary disc filter, one disc being shown at 112. The lorry is driven round to small sewage works where permanent equipment of this kind would not be economical. The filter discs are internally divided and rotate to connect each sector in turn to two vacuum outlets, leading to pump 118 which delivers filtrate to tank 122, from which it is returned to the sewage works by a pump (144) responding automatically to level changes in tank 122. Solids are removed from the disc by scrapers and/or by a blast of compressed air delivered from tank (137), fed by compressor (135), the blast being released by a valve which is opened by a solenoid as the sector in question comes into communication with the air line (138). Solids are directed by shields 129, 131 on to shoots (141, 142) which discharge directly on to another lorry or on to a conveyor. Additional pumps (148, 149, 152) deliver fractions of filtrate from tank 122 to cool compressor (135) and seal vacuum pump 118, to dilute the incoming sludge in duct 114 and to dilute the floculating agent (Fig. 4, not shown). In Figs. 1 to 3 (not shown) recirculated filtrate passes through the vacuum pump to ensure constant flow of liquid therethrough.
