Abstract

120,992. Brooksby, F. H., Bowtle, W., and Meers, J. W. Dec. 6, 1917. Buttons and buttonfasteners. - A stem carried by, or forming one part of, a button is passed through an eyelet secured in the material and is then connected to the other part of the button, the eyelet forming no part of the means for securing the parts of the button together; flexibility of movement may be provided also between the stem and one or both parts of the button. Figs. 1, 5, and 13 show two buttons c, d connected together back to back, and Fig. 10 shows a single button c secured to the fabric a by a hollow rivet s. The button d, Fig. 1, is provided with a stem e, which is passed through the eyelet b and through an opening f in the button c and then headed over; alternatively, the button c may be dispensed with. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 10, the button c is secured to the fabric a by heading over a hollow rivet s, which is provided with a flange s'. The hollow rivet s may be used with the two buttons c, d, Fig. 1, the integral stem e of the button d being dispensed with. Various .forms of hollow and solid rivets are shown. The opening f in the button, through which the stem e or rivet s passes, may have a square or other outline to allow flexibility of movement. In the arrangement shown in Fig. 5, each button comprises a hollow body k with a cover m enclosing a spring n, Fig. 6, with which the head o of a doublebeaded rivet engages. The buttons c, d, Fig. 13, are provided with holes v for receiving a wire shank w.
