' i Application May 4, 1949. Serial No.'91,366
Our present invention relatesto an improved detachablebuttonof the type easily secured to or detached from garments for men, women-and children. I
1 According to our invention-any garment provided with atsuitable openingsuch as a buttonhole; may be furnished with the button of our invention and..it .willbe apparent from the following description that the buttons whether made of asingle piece or oiiijoined portions maybe easily. insertedin or removedfrom the slit or buttonhole provided.
In the accompanying drawings we have illustrated various examples of the physical embodiment of our invention according to the best mode we have thus far devised, but it will be understood that various changes and alterations may be made in the exemplified structure within the scope of the appended claims.
In the drawings:
Figure 1 is a top plan view of the button of our invention.
Figure 2 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 3 is a bottom plan view.
Figure 4 is a sectional view at line 4-4 of Fig. 1.
Figure 5 is a sectional view of a modified form.
Figure 6 is a sectional view of a further modified form.
Figure 7 is a plan view of a button base for use with a conventional button.
Figure 8 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 9 is a plan view of a modified button base.
Figure 10 is a side elevational view thereof.
Figure 11 is a sectional view of a further modified form of integral button and base.
Figure 12 is also a sectional view through the button showing a further modification.
Referring now to the drawings wherein we have illustrated the present preferred form of our invention we employa disk base 2 having a radial slot 4 and one end of the arcuate rim of the disk being bent outwardly as at 6.
A collar 8 spaces the disk 2 from the button disk Ill and it will be clear that the outwardly turned portion 6 may be inserted into a buttonhole and the whole rotated so that the disk base is moved through the garment with the button disk remaining outside. Of course it is understood that the garment is formed with overlapping edge portions and aligned buttonholes so that the under portion will receive the base disks, and the overlapping portion may be buttoned to the button disk.
In Fig. 5, we have illustrated a modified form 4 Claims. (01. arr- 102).
wherein the base disk I2 is formed with a tubular collar 13 flaring outwardly at M to fit into a recular wall of the collar will spread outwardly cess iii of the button disk or head [8 which has a reduced throat 20. suitable material deformable to grip the collar, and as the collar is forced into the recess thecirpassing into the edge of the recess under the throat.
28 of closed collar 26 of the receptacle 2'! having an annular flange 30 to mount the button disk or head 32 on the button.
In Figs. 7 and 8, the base disk 34 is formed with an annular flange 36 within the periphery of the disk, and inside the area 38 confined by the flange we form a series of openings 40 through which may be secured by threads 42 a conventional button 44 having central openings 46.
In Figs. 9 and 10 the base disk 48 has a central neck 56 formed with a lateral bore 52 and the button 54 formed with neck 56 and lateral bore 58 may be secured to the base disk by thread.
In Fig. 11 we have shown a modification of the structure of Fig. 5 wherein the button 62 is provided with an annular recess '64 and the central tubular neck 66 of the base 61 is pressed or cast to fit snugly into the annular recess of the button.
In the design shown in Figure 12 a button head 10 is provided with a U-shaped connector H, the ends 12 and 13 of which extend outwardly of the arms 14 and 15 at a right angle thereto and the ends 12 and 13 are embedded in the head, and the arms 14 and 15 of which carry a base 16 which has a concave undersurface. The
arms 14 and 15 of the connector are positioned 1. In a quick insertable button, the combination which comprises a button head and a base spaced from the head having a radially disposed slot therein with the material of the base at one side of the said slot flared outwardly away from the head, and a U-shaped connector having a pair of parallel arms connecting the base to the head with one arm of the connector The-button disk may be of 3 positioned in an opening in the base and the other in the said radially disposed slot, and the ends of the arms being bent outwardly thereof at a right angle thereto and the ends and a portion of the arms being embedded in said button head.
2. In a quick insertable button, the combination which comprises 'a button head and a base spaced from the head having a radially disposed slot therein with the material of the base at one side of the said slot flared outwardly away from the head, and a U-shaped connector having a pair of parallel arms connecting the base to the head with one arm of the connector positioned in an opening in the base and the other in the said radially disposed slot, said base having a, concave under surface for shielding the outer end of the connector, and the ends of the arms being bent outwardly thereof at a right angle thereto and the ends and a portion of the arms being embedded in said button head.
13. A -button having a disc providing a head with a U-shaped connector having a .pair of parallel legs extended from the under side of the head, and a base having an opening therethrough and a slot extended inwardly from one edge freely mounted on said U-shaped connector with one leg of the connector positioned in the slot and the other through the opening of the base, and the 'ends of the legs being bent outwardly thereof at a right angle thereto and the ends and a portion of each leg being embedded in said head.
4. A button having a disc providing a head with a, U-shaped connector having a pair of parallel legs extended from the under side of the head, and a base having an opening therethrough and a slot extended inwardly from one edge freely mounted on said U-sh'aped connector with one leg of the connector positioned in the slot and the other through the opening of the base, thesurface of said base facing the under surface 'of the head being convex whereby the base is rocked on the connector to facilitate insertion thereof through a button hole, and the ends of the legs being bent outwardly thereof at a right a'ngle thereto and the ends and a portion of each leg being embedded in said head.
