PIVOT BUTTON.
To all whom it concern: Be it known that I, Mourns WEISS, a cit1- zen of Russia, and a resident of the city of New York, borough of Manhattan, in the county and State of New York, have invented a new and Improved Pivot Button, of which the following is a full, clear, and exact description.
This invention relates to pivot buttons.
The object of this invention is to provide a simple and efficient button of the pivot type designed to carry a cloth cover and which may be readily attached to or detached from any fabric. j
This and other objects of the invention will be more clearly understood from the following detailed description and accompanying drawings.
Figure 1 is a cross section through the button showing the stud detached;
Figure 2 is a cross section through the button showingit connected to the fabri by means of the stud;
Figure 3 is a plan view of the base plate with which the stud engages; and
Figure 4 is a perspective view of the base which serves to hold the cover in position on the body of the button.
Referring to the above mentioned drawings, the button consists of a hollow body portion 10 that may be stamped from any suitable metal or other material. Placed over this hollow body portion 10 is a cloth cover 11. This cover may be of any desired design that conforms with the fabric in conjunction with which the button is to be used. The base portion 12 is constructed the shape of the bottom of the hollow body portion 10. This base portion has a flat bottom 12 integral with which is an annular flange 14:. An opening 13 is out in the bottom 12. Located in the base portion is a plate 15 which is held in position by means of a disc 16. An opening 17 is cut in the disc 16 and is so located in the disc' that it is in line with the opening 13 in the base porangular projection is of circular cross section but both, the stud and the. opening might be made of any other cross section. The stud is provided with a large head which does not easily pull through the fabric.
The triangular shaped projection gives considerable strength to the plate and also the sides about the opening in the projection take a very firm grip on the stud 19. The projection does not necessarily need to be triangular shape, it might be of some other shape such as that of ahemisphere. The stud which is smooth may be removed when it is of circular cross section. This removal is accomplished by rotating the button and it gradually works its way towards the point of the stud 19. The disc 16 is provided to hold the plate 15 in position and may be made of any suitable material such as paper.
An advantage of a button constructedacsigned for use in attaching to garments for ornamental purposes. It might also be used for attaching two fabricstogether or in some cases as an ordinary button for projecting through a buttonhole, provided the fabric in which the buttonhole is formed is not thick, so that it may easily fit under the button body.
I wish to state in conclusion that while the illustrated examples constitute a practical embodiment of my invention, I do not limit myself strictly to the mechanical details herein illustrated since manifestly the same can be considerably varied without departing from the spirit of the invention as defined in the appended claims.
Claims' 1. As a new article of manufacture, a pivot button of the class described, comprising a hollow body portion, a flanged base portion, a plate having a triangular projection with an opening at the apex carried by the base portion, said triangular portion having its walls integral, means for retaining said plate in position and a smooth.
