Abstract

1,209,009. Wrap-around carton for varioussized articles. OLINKRAFT, Inc. 20 May, 1969 [23 May, 1968], No. 25591/69. Heading B8C. A wrap-around carton is locked about a group of articles by alternative tongue and slot locks 13, 14, 130, 140 or 16, 17, 160, 170 (Fig. 1) selected automatically according to the peripheral length of the group of articles. In the machine illustrated the carton blank is applied to the articles k (Fig. 8A) as they are pushed along a conveyer. and the lower margins of the blank are folded under the articles by fixed ploughs (26, 28) and rods (22, 23, 24) (Figs. 5-7, not shown) and by two series of rollers 32, 33 engaging the roots of outwardly folded flaps 11, 11A. One at least of the rollers in spring-biased inwardly to tighten the carton about the articles so that the proper tongue- and-slot lock, broken out by the previous folding, is engaged. Flaps 11, 11A are subsequently folded to form a second lock. The conveyer may include a resiliently mounted table over which the articles are pushed by an endless flight conveyer.
