Abstract

993,490. Packages; cartons. MEAD CORPORATION. Jan. 7, 1964 [Jan. 7, 1963], No. 780/64. Headings B8C and B8P An elongated wrapper blank comprises a main panel 1, a pair of side panels 2, 3 foldably joined to the main panel and a pair of lap panels 12, 13 foldably joined to the edges of the side panels, the end edges of each of the panels being cut away to form a scallop-like configuration along both edges of the blank for substantially the entire length thereof and the outwardly protruding portions of the end edges being disposed at the fold lines 14, 4, 5 and 18 between the panels. The two lap panels 12, 13 are wrapped around the articles and are secured together by locking tabs 22, 23 in panel 12 co-operating with openings 24, 25 in panel 13. A plurality of slits 6-11 and 15-20 are formed along fold lines 4, 5, 14 and 18 which hold the articles e.g. cans within the tubular carton produced. When the blanks are cut, wrapping material may be saved by nesting the scalloped edges of adjacent blanks within each other (Fig. 4). When the main panel width and side panel height is equal the scalloping is symmetrical but if the main panel is wider than the side panel, the cut out portion 30 is enlarged. Similarly if the side panels are wider the side panel cut outs are enlarged (Fig. 5, not shown). Specification 790,815 is referred to.
