Abstract
1,208,661. Casings, core constructions and insulation for dynamo-electric machines. J. GANGLOFF. 12 Jan., 1968 [24 April, 1967], No. 1983/68. Heading H2A. In a motor-pump assembly, for a hot water central heating installation, comprising a planar air gap motor, the motor rotor 5 and an impeller 7 are fixed to opposite ends of a hollow rotatable shaft 4 mounted in a bearing bush 3 on the stator 2 and some of the pumped fluid lubricates the bearing and passes through the motor air gap and the hollow shaft back to the main fluid channel a one-way valve 18 preventing flow of fluid along the shaft from the impeller towards the rotor. The stator is protected from the fluid by a non-rusting partition 8, and the rotor by shells 11, 12 made of, e.g. copper or stainless steel. Figs. 2, 3, 4 (all not shown) show various modifications in securing the motor casing to the volute of the pump, Figs. 3 and 4 also showing a modification wherein the protective covers 8, 11 and 12 are omitted, the stator coils are coated with a hot water resistant resin and the rotor cape is made of cast copper or aluminium. Centrifuging back blades 19 on the impeller prevent any impurities in the fluid reaching the bearing bush 3 and also reduces the thrust on a thrust bearing 6.
