Abstract
1,208,131. Constant-tension spring supports. BRITISH INDUSTRIAL ENG. CO. (STAFFS) Ltd. 23 Feb., 1968 [4 March, 1967], No. 10337/67. Heading F2S. A constant-tension spring support comprises a lever 23 pivotally mounted between two plates 12, the lever having a connector 27, 28 for connection to a load and spring means acting on the lever 23. The spring means comprise two identical compression springs 17, 18 supported between three abutments 11, 20, 19, a rod 40 pivotally connected to the lever 23 passing through an aperture in the abutment 11 and into the opening of the compression spring 17, said rod being pivotally connected to a second rod 44 which passes through the abutment 20, the spring 18 and is connected to the abutment 19. Rod 44 is slidable in a sleeve 45 secured to the abutment 20. The lever 23 comprises two plates 24, and has first and second selectively operable pivotal mountings, the first being about a pin 31 received in slots 33 in the side plates 12, and the second being about the complementary axis of apertures 35 in the lever plates 24 and apertures 36 in the side plates 12, the pivoting being allowed by the slots 33. In both cases, a load connected to the connector means is supported by a substantially constant force.
