Abstract
880,191. Constant supports. PRICE, B. T. L. Jan. 18, 1960 [Jan. 4, 1960], No. 176/60. Class 108(3). A constant support for a pipeline comprises a lever having a load arm OP and a sprung arm OP in which the spring arm is arranged at an angle between 60 degrees lagging. and 30 degrees leading relative to the load arm in the direction of falling load and in which the pin P connecting the spring effort rod 13 to the lever spring arm OP may be adjusted along a radial line by means of a lead screw 4, passing through the pin bearing bush 3 to alter the length of the spring arm OP to adjust for different pipe loads. The lever comprises a pair of plates 1 joined by cross-pieces 2 and 5 with alternative holes on line OR for a load support rod 9 pivoted at R and is slotted to take the shouldered pin bearing bush 3. The bush is capped to take the lead screw 4. Brackets 10 support the lever on pivot O and the spring trunnion plate 11 against which spring 12 is compressed on pivots Q and for constant support the initial compression of the spring equals distance PQ. The angles ROP and QOZ, marked Y in the Figures, are arranged to be equal where OZ is parallel to the load support arm. In the alternative low friction arrangement shown in Fig. 3 the spring is mounted vertically and the pipe support rod 9 is connected by a pair of links 6 to the pivot R. Specification 827,426 is referred to.
