In a constant support for pipes, of the kind comprising a pair of cam pulleys 12 pivoted at 13 between a pair of mounting plates 10 and connected by chains 14 to spring-loading devices 20 pivoted to the plate 10, radial arms 21 on the cam pulleys 12 are connected to a support rod 23 for the pipe, not shown, through a step-down gearing system such as lazy tongs levers 24, 25 so that a certain movement of the support rod 23 produces a corresponding reduced movement of the radial arms 21. The arrangement can also be applied to a support having only one cam pulley the upper end of the spare lever 24 being pivoted to a pin secured between the plates 70. In a modification, Fig. 3 (not shown), the cam and arm mechanisms 12, 21 are replaced by rockable triangular plates which are pivotally connected to the upper levers of the lazy tongs and also to the spring-loading devices by means of articulated pairs of links.
