Abstract

1,004,236. Spring support devices. L. S. SUOZZO. Dec. 24, 1963, No. 50966/63. Heading F2S. A spring device for a spring-controlled support device comprises a housing 30 and a pair of levers 40, 50 each pivotally connected to the housing. A pair of rod members 44, 54 are pivotally connected to a corresponding lever and a spring means carried by the housing co-operates with the rod members to impart axial movement thereto. In the construction shown the support device consists of a number of pivoted links L-1 to L-6 in the form of a pantograph unit P, the free ends of the pair of levers 40, 50 being pivotally connected to links L-1, L-2 of the device and the elongation and contraction of the support device being controlled by a threaded rod 66 and nuts 67, 68, 69, 70 assembly which nuts co-operate with brackets 64, 65 of the links L-1, L-2. The spring means includes a guide tube 60 which carries a series of opposed disc springs 61, the guide tube being slidably housed in guide elements 47, 57 of the rod members 40, 50. The disc springs are spaced by rings 62. In a modification of the spring device, Fig. 5, the rod members 96, 100 carry at their ends movable plates 76, 77 which are biased away from each other by a spring 95. In a further embodiment (Fig. 8, not shown), further helical springs are positioned between the ends of the housing and the movable plates 76, 77. The axes of the pivots of the levers 40, 50 may be in one plane or the axis of the pivotal connection of the rod means may be offset from the plane of the axes of the other two pivotal connections (Figs. 6, 7, not shown). The support device may depend downwardly from a suspended member, e.g. a beam, or may be mounted on a base member and project upwardly. With a constant force spring device the support device is variable and with a variable force spring device the support device is constant. The springs in the spring means may be a combination of disc and helical springs. Specification 841,332 is referred to.
