Abstract
1,207,817. Dust-suppressing, mineral-mining cutter drums. MAVOR & COULSON Ltd. 28 Nov., 1968 [8 Dec., 1967], No. 55912/67. Heading E1F. In a dust-suppressing, water-spraying system incorporated in a cutter drum 2 of a mineralmining machine water is supplied to an arcuate trough 15 in the outer side of a fixed ring 11 concentrically disposed about the axis of rotation of the drum in a radially outwardly opening annular trough 9 formed in the inner end face of the drum. Water seals 12, 13 are positioned between the ring 11 and the trough 9 which on the side nearest the outer end of the drum is defined by a regularly apertured end plate 19. Each aperture 18 in the plate 19 leads to a passage 5 terminating at the curved periphery of the drum. The trough 15 is of a length such that it registers with about half of the apertures 18 so that at any moment water is sprayed out from over about half of the curved periphery of the drum.
