The aerator of, for example, Specification 919,467 is arranged with baffle plates extending radially relative to the axis of rotation with the distance between the inner end of each baffle plate and the axis of rotation of the aerator being between 1/5 and ¢ of the diameter of the aerator to prevent total rotation of the sewage being aerated. .
