Shear-blades, punches.- Wire rope c or the like is cut by a hollow, circular or prismatic die B with recesses b<1>, b<2> having semicircular-shaped ends, coacting with a cutter A of similar cross-section to the die, and having a semicircular groove a<1> backed off as shown at a<3>. The cutting edges of the recess b<1> may be formed separately from the die B, as shown, and held in place by detachable side pieces b<5> and screws. The semicircular portion b<4> is in any case backed off. The recess b<2> is deeper than the recess b<1>, to allow the rope to be pushed down during the shearing operation.
