Abstract

1,207,304. Bowden mechanisms. BOWDEN CONTROLS Ltd. 13 Oct., 1967 [7 Sept., 1966], No. 40043/66. Heading F2K. A stranded inner cable 3 of a Bowden mechanism has a deposit 4 consisting of a major portion by weight of polyfluorocarbon thermoplastic material such as P.T.F.E. filling at least the helical external grooves of the cable, and a liner tube 2 of thermoplastics material is located between the inner cable 3 and an outer conduit 1, the deposit having been applied in the form of a dispersion in an aqueous medium to such an extent that substantially the whole of the solid deposit 4 bonded to the outside of the cable in accommodated in the helical grooves of the cable. The liner tube is of a thermoplastic material requiring a compression stress of not less than 3000 lb./in.<SP>2</SP> to produce a 1% deformation and may consist of a polyamide, polyacetol, polyolefin or polyester plastics and in particular may be nylon or polyethylene.
