Abstract

1,206,225. Knitting-machines. S T I B B E MACHINERY Ltd. 27 May, 1969 [3 May, 1968], No. 20995/68. Heading D1C. A multifeed circular knitting-machine having each needle selectively actuated as the result of the pressing or mispressing of a single reading butt 27 on the end of a presser jack 25 has the presser jacks arranged in groups E, F, Fig. 3 with the single reading butt 27 of the jacks of the group at two a, b or more levels and the stack of rotary selector discs 37 for acting on the single reading butts arranged likewise in groups A, B of two or more so that the full width of the pattern in terms of the needles actuated in the width corresponds with the total number of pattern teeth of the discs of the groups acting on the pressers. The pattern discs 37 may be arranged alternately so that any two adjacent discs control two groups of jacks E, F having reading butts 27 at the corresponding levels. Actuation of the pressers 25 cause an intermediate member 29 to pivot and rock the needle actuating jack 24 out of engagement with the cam engaging the butt on the jack. Consequently the needle is not selected to knit. Only the needles having jacks and pressers which are not operated by the pattern discs are caused to be rendered operative. The lower portion of the pressers have a number of cam engaging butts 28 which when the cams are rendered operative as described in Specification 39958/68 cause the pressers to move up or down so that the single reading butt 27 registers with a different pattern disc and a fresh selection can be achieved. Instead of a single stack of pattern discs, two stacks ES, OS, Fig. 8, may be provided at each feed and the discs in each stack arranged in a wider spacing. The discs of the first stack are spaced at levels intermediate those of the second stack. A first selection SP1 is made by pressers of one group at the first stack OS followed by a second selection SP2 at the second stack ES. In addition the pressers may have reading butts on one group of jacks E arranged at two levels c d and also butts on a second group of jacks F arranged at a third and fourth level a, b, Fig. 9. Selective operation of the pressers under the dictates of the discs according to the butts at the appropriate level on the corresponding groups enables various patterning effects to be achieved. In the case of the provision of two stacks of discs at a feed the discs of both stacks may be at the same levels, the pressers after the first selection being lowered prior to the second selection and then raised again.
