Abstract
1,205,245. Ammonium nitrate; explosive compositions. HIRTENBERGER PATRONEN - ZUNDHUTCHEN - UND METALL - WARENFABRIK A.G. 22 Sept., 1967 [21 Nov., 1966], No. 43357/67. Addition to 1,205,244. Headings C1A and C1D. An explosive or blasting agent includes NH 4 NO 3 at least part of which is the microcrystalline lipophilic NH 4 NO 3 produced as in the parent Specification, and one or more oxidizing salts such as NaNO 3 or NH 4 ClO 4 , or the explosive may include NH 4 NO 3 part only of which NH 4 NO 3 is produced as in the parent Specification. A further explosive comprises 0-20% by weight water, 3-6% hydrocarbons, e.g. Fuel Oil No. 4, the balance being NH 4 NO 3 , part only of which NH 4 NO 3 is that of the parent Specification. In another modification, the lipophilic NH 4 NO 3 of the explosive is produced by forming the salts of the alkyl amines and alkanolamines in situ by adding an acid salt, e.g. zinc nitrate or calcium nitrate to the said amines. In an example, an explosive comprises a viscous slurry of Guar flour, Fuel Oil No. 2 and the lipophilic NH 4 NO 3 . In other examples, aluminium powder and nitroglycerine are present.
