Abstract

1,204,696. Multi-colour electro-photography. RANK XEROX Ltd. Nov.27, 1967 [Nov.29, 1966], No.53811/67. Heading G2H. A process of multi-colour electro-photography comprises forming electro-photographically different colour images on transparent supports, superimposing one support upon the other, and then superimposing the combined image. Photoconductive layers 12a, 12b, 12c, which are respectively red, green and blue sensitive are carried by conductive layer 11a, 11b, 11c, cyan magenta and yellow images 13a, 13b, 13c are formed in known manner and transferred to transparent films 14a, 14b, 14c before fixing. The films are then superimposed as shown in Fig. 3. The spaces between the films may be filled with transparent resin, e.g., by coating the back of film 14c or the image 13b and film 14b within resin to cause films 14b and 14c to stack together. In another embodiment, the two image carrying films 14a, 14b, Fig.4 are superimposed on a yellow image 13c on the layer 12c. In one example (Example 2) zine oxide paper was negatively charged and then exposed through a mesh screen and red filter to a coloured original. The latent image formed was developed with cyan toner, transferred to a (Registered Trade Mark) "Mylar" film, and fixed. Similarly magenta and yellow colour separation images were produced and the three films superimposed one over another in correct registration. Developers used may be liquid developer comprising kerosene, linseed oil and phthalocyanine blue covered with copolymer of polyvinyl chloride or a powder developer comprising iron powder covered with polyvinyl chloride acetate resin and, cyan magenta or yellow toner mixed with polystyrene.
