Abstract

1,204,462. Bags; packaging. GOGLIO LUIGI MILANO S.p.A. 22 Jan., 1969 [23 Jan., 1968], No. 3559/69. Hdadings B8C and B8K. A bag for coffee or the like, which is vacuum packed but which gives off a gas, has a one-way valve for relieving the pressure in the bag when it exceeds a predetermined value. The bag comprises an inner ply 1 of thermoplastic material and an outer ply of paper formed into a tube by bonding along a flap which is bent back against the tube and bonded thereto to lie flat against the tube. Gussets are formed in the sides of the tube. A one-way valve is bonded to the ply 1 and has a rubber diaphragm 7 biased to close an aperture 6 by a cover 8 which is secured to the body 5 of the valve. When an excessive pressure is generated inside the bag it lifts the diaphragm and escapes to atmosphere via an aperture 10 in the cover.
