Abstract
1,203,591. Composite building slab. J. C. LEEMHUIS. 7 Aug., 1967, No. 36177/67. Heading E1W. A composite truss slab in a building comprises a lower slab 11 Fig. 2 of concrete including prestressed reinforcing means 35 extending throughout the slab, an overlying layer of concrete defining an upper slab 10 and extending down to the lower slab in a series of spaced concrete columns 20 to define therebetween a plurality of interconnected dome shaped chambers to provide a network of spaces allowing air circulation throughout the network, and reinforcing members spaced along the lower slab having portions 31 embedded therein, intermediate portions 30 extending through the columns and portions 32 embedded in the overlying layer 10. The dome shaped chambers are constituted by stool shaped forms 14 Fig. 5 of metal or similar sheet material placed side-by-side, over which the upper concrete layer 10 is poured. The network of spaces provides for the flow of heating or cooling air, the direction of flow of which may be controlled by partitions between selected stools 14. Electrical wiring raceways may rest on the top of the stools when these have flat tops 50 as in Fig. 6. Reference is made to lift-slab construction.
