Abstract

1,202,788. Bottle closures. CONTINENTAL CAN CO. Inc. 2 Dec., 1968 [13 Dec., 1967], No. 57102/68. Heading B8T. A crown closure 10, for a bottle B having closure retention means C, comprises a top 11 and a depending flange 12, the flange having a vertical portion 14, a horizontal portion 16, a downwardly inclined protective lip 21, and a number of angularly spaced ribs 17 each extending between the vertical portion 14 and a terminal line in the horizontal portion 16 spaced from the terminal edge 19 of the flange 12. The closure may be retained on the bottle by forcing the horizontal portion 16 downwardly so that the junction line 20 of the. vertical and horizontal portions is disposed under the edge C of the bottle, the terminal edge 19 then being disposed inwardly of the terminal line of the ribs 17, the edge 19 being formed with inwardly and upwardly disposed valleys 22, one valley 22 being vertically aligned with a respective rib 17. Alternatively, the retaining means on the bottle may be in the form of a helical bead (H), Fig. 4 (not shown).
