Abstract

1,202,774. Valves. POTTERTON INTERNATIONAL Ltd. 18 Jan., 1968, No. 2659/68. Heading F2V. A thermostatic valve for controlling a gas burner in the boiler of a water heating system can have its operating range altered by selectively applying current to resistance heating elements R 1 , R 2 . In Fig. 3 these elements are wound on a heat sensitive probe 8 in one of the water tubes, but in a modification (Fig. 4, not shown) an auxiliary probe (15), connected to capillary tube 10, is provided with the heating elements. In another embodiment (Fig. 5) the position of the datum regulating control 12 is adjusted by a toothed sector 18 movable by a bi-metallic strip 21 provided with elements R 1 , R 2 . The Specification describes circuits (Figs. 7 and 8, not shown) which energize the elements under the control of a programming clock and an air temperature sensing element.
