Abstract

1,202,763. Flexible couplings. C. BARBER. 18 June, 1969 [25 June, 1968], No. 30190/68. Heading F2U. A flexible coupling between shafts 1, 2 consists of a torsionally rigid metallic bellows 7 connecting shaft 1 and a collar 8 on shaft 2 and enclosing a slip coupling 14, 18 between collar 8 and shaft 2. As shown one end of bellows 7 is secured to a sleeve 1 connected to shaft 1 by a set screw 6 and the other end is secured by screws 9 to collar 8 which is carried by a bearing sleeve 13 and bears against a thrust washer 14 engaged by a spring washer 17 adjustably loaded by nuts 18, 19 on the end of a sleeve 20 secured to shaft 2 by a set screw 12. The adjusting nuts 18, 19 may be mounted outside the bellows 7.
