Abstract

120,255. Hutchins, T. W. S. Oct. 31, 1917. Feeding and measuring; lubricating; processes. -In the production of carbon blocks by compressing finely ground material, the mould is lined with a film of solid lubricant prior to or during the introduction of the material. The lubricating material, e.g. graphite, may be employed with or without the addition of fat or grease, e.g. tallow, as a binding-medium. Apparatus for carrying out the invention comprises a liner a, Fig. 1, through which the carbon is introduced and around which the lubricant is passed into the mould b, the liner being positioned within the mould by distancepieces c. Fig. 3 shows a modification in which the liner a is provided with spring, hinged tongues d. The material may be compressed against a porous bed connected to an exhaust pump.
