Abstract

1,201,826. Springs. ENGLISH ELECTRIC CO. Ltd. 11 March, 1969 [15 March, 1968], No. 12637/68. Heading F2S. [Also in Division H1] In a snap-action spring-biasing means for urging a longitudinally movable actuator rod 10 towards both ends of its stroke, a pair of pivoted links 18 coupled to the rod 10 by a pin 13 move over centre at right-angles to the rod 10 and actuate a bell-crank 21, to deflect a coil spring 14 arranged coaxially of the rod 10. Arm 22 of the bell-crank 21 cams a sleeve 11 slidable on the rod 10 and engaging the spring 14, slots 12 being provided in the sleeve 11 to permit movement of the pin 13. In a modification the arm 22 of the bell-crank 21 may be coupled to a tension coil spring arranged coaxially of the rod 10 and connected to fixed points. The device is particularly applied to switch-gear actuation. (See Division H1.)
