Abstract
1,201,303. Package forming means. SHIRLEY & WARBEY BOX CO. Ltd. 6 Oct., 1967 [21 July, 1966], No. 32915/66. Headings B8C and B8K. Means capable of forming a package comprises a back panel, a sheet of transparent material adhered to at least two marginal portions of said back panel to form a compartment, the back panel having two fold lines defining side panels which can be brought out of the plane of the back panel to form a space in the compartment for the purpose of introducing an article into it, and means for closing the package so as to draw the transparent sheet taut around the article. As shown such means consists of a cardboard or like blank, creased centrally at a to form a back panel 3 and a front panel 2, the latter having therein an elongated aperture 5. The back panel 3 is creased or weakened along fold lines b to form side flaps 4 and a layer 6 of heat-shrinkable or cold-stretchable film is adhered to panel 3 at areas 7 and 8 to form a pocket for the reception of an article. In use, the flaps 4 are raised, e.g. by a blast of air directed into the open end of the pocket and the article is placed therein. The top panel 2 is then folded over at a and sealed to the bottom panel 3 along the flaps 4, which are flattened out again, so as to form a completed package with the article lying under and positioned by the film layer 6 and exposed through the aperture 5 (Fig. 2, not shown). In a further embodiment (Fig. 6, not shown), the fold lines are made concave outwards and the package is closed by folding the open end of the pocket back on itself and securing it with an eyelet.
