Abstract

1,201,168. Ropes; braid. WILLIAM KENYON & SONS, Ltd. 28 Nov., 1968 [14 Dec., 1967], No. 56816/67. Headings D1T and D1K. A rope of twisted construction or braided or plaited construction made wholly or principally from synthetic materials such as nylon, polypropylene, polyethylene, polyvinyl alcohol, polyethylene terephthalate or mixtures and blends thereof, is impregnated with a nylon resin. Preferably the rope is also impregnated with an acrylic resin. The rope may be made from spun staple or continuous filament yarn. The rope may be impregnated by immersing in a nylon resin in solution in an organic solvent or the nylon resin may be applied to the rope which is then heated to melt and disperse the nylon resin throughout the rope. An acrylic resin may be applied simultaneously or consecutively. Alternatively the rope may be impregnated by impregnating the individual threads before forming them into a rope. The wear-resistant properties of such a rope are improved.
