Abstract

1,200,785. Ignition systems. ROBERT BOSCH G.m.b.H. Aug.25, 1967 [Aug.27, 1966], No.39202/67. Heading F1B. [Also in Division H2] In an engine ignition system comprising a transistor 52 controlled by an output winding 17 of a signal generator having an air gap between a rotor 11 and a stator 10 of a magnetic flux path 35 linking the winding, the rotor periphery adjacent the gap has a saw-tooth shape of which the rising and falling flanks 33, 34 of each tooth 30 have respectively small and steep slopes. As shown, the teeth are radial, the falling flank 34 is undercut, and the rising flank is such as to produce a linearly increasing flux density. The stator has an excitation winding 16, and the rotor includes either an annular of soft magnetic material or a permanent magnet 28 axially polarized. The asymmetric A.C. output pulses (a) Fig. 3 obviate the need for diodes 67, 68 to protect the transistor 52, which when conducting blocks transistors 53, 54 to interrupt current in the primary winding 44 of an ignition coil 43 whereupon its secondary winding 45 produces a high voltage which is applied via a distributor 47 to a respective sparking plug 49.
