Abstract

[Also in Division E1] A structural unit consisting of at least two layers of cement-bonded materials of different density bonded together by steam pressure hardening without an extraneous bonding agent, is made by introducing the materials of the two layers separately into the mould, allowing the material to at least partly set and heating in the presence of water to set the unit. The cement-bonded material may be lightweight concrete, sand-lime brick, mortar or other concretes and may contain a natural or synthetic organic or inorganic fibre. The material of greater density is preferably introduced into the mould first and may be densified by vibration before or after the other layer has been formed. The setting may be carried out using warm water, low pressure wet steam, hot moist air or high pressure saturated steam, preferably at temperatures above 175‹ C. and at the corresponding elevated pressure.
