908,125. Making asbestos-cement slabs. PASQUALE, C. April 9, 1959 [June 9, 1958], No. 12022/59. Class 96. Asbestos-cement slabs are made from a series of webs formed on cylinder mould machines 1 . . . 6 and collected, with the aid of suction at 9, by felts 7, 8 which carry them through the first wet press 10 and pass them to a second press 11 which smooths the surfaces of the combined web and which may also corrugate or shape it. A hardening liquid, e.g. potassium and sodium silicate, and silicic acid, is sprayed on to the web at 20. The web is then cut by a disc-knife or a grinding-wheel mounted on a transversely-moving carriage 17 which is carried by a main carriage which moves longitudinally, together with a conveyer belt 12; the asbestoscement slabs L being then carried past infra-red lamps directed against both sides of the slabs. The slabs are accelerated by a roller-conveyer and are piled up, with the aid of an air-blast, on to a carriage which is raised from its rails by an hydraulic jack and lowered gradually, in cooperation with a feeler as the slabs are piled up. The surface layers of the slabs may be of better quality than the interior, and they may be coloured.
