A metal disc or wheel for cutting stone or mortar comprises a soft metal matrix with particles of tungsten carbide embedded therein welded to its periphery in the form of a continuous band or interrupted sections. The disc 10 may be of stainless steel and have a central boss 13. The tungsten carbide particles are embedded in the matrix 11 which may consist of brass and extends around the periphery of the wheel with a thickness of # inch the thickness of the disc being <SP>1</SP>/ 16 inch.
