Abstract

120,069. Pick, W. H., and Morley, F. W. Oct. 15, 1917. Hydroplane vessels.-A hydroplane vessel 1 is provided with a number of stabilizing-planes 4 located below the lifting planes or surfaces so as to remain submerged and move substantially horizontally through the water when the vessel is in motion. Vertical stabilizing planes 5 may be added to preserve the lateral balance of the vessel. The stabilizing-planes are carried by a framework 3 attached to the under surface of the vessel 1, and a number of adjustable lifting-planes 2 may be mounted on the framework and adapted, if desired, to raise the vessel 1 entirely out of the water when it is in motion, as indicated in Fig. 2. The horizontal stabilizing-planes 4 may also be movable to aid in the lifting effort, and the vertical stabilizing-planes may be movable to assist in steering the vessel. The invention may also be applied to the floats of hydro-aeroplanes. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specifications 15312/05, 2948/09, and 14216/11.
